Mrs. Catherine W. Steen, age 84, died Thursday morning, December 29, 2011, in the Franklin County Rehab Center. She was born in Swanton September 27, 1927 daughter of the late Frederick and Edith (O’Leary) Wall. In her earlier years she was employed at Marlow’s Store and retired as manager from Stollman’s Ladies Clothing Store. She then became the first female rural mail carried for the U. S. Postal Service in Swanton. Catherine was a devout catholic, and proud of her Irish heritage. She loved her cats, Caspurr, Casey and Sally.
She married James W. Steen June 7, 1952.
Her survivors include her brother Larry Wall and his wife Shirley of Swanton, nephew Michael Wall, niece Melissa and her husband Robert Wagner, 2 grandnieces Bailey Buckley and Cassidy Wall along with several other nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special thanks to Michael and Sherry Boulerice for all their years of generosity and kindness. She also leaves close friend and special neighbor Dorothy Bolduc. She was predeceased by her husband, James, sisters Elizabeth Desiderio, Ruth Wall and Eileen Dorsey, brothers Patrick Wall and Robert Wall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Leonidas Laroche, former pastor, at St. Mary’s Church at 10:00 A. M. Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday. Interment will be in the Steen family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery, next spring.
